How much do events of our childhood influence our interests as adults. I am attracted to books about people decide to go it alone in the wild, and the books about travels along the Appalachian Trail. I like other books by Bill Bryson, because of his humor, but this book "A Walk In The Woods", is written about something that dream of, walking the the Appalachian Trail. When I was a child my family would take vacations in Vermont. We would often stay at Harvey's Mountain View Farm In Rochester, Vermont. When I was about 8, my family decided to walk part of the Long Trail in Vermont. The the Appalachian Trail joins the Long Trail there. We walked from Brandon Gap to Middlebury Gap, Vermont. Iit was supposedly equal to walking 50 miles on flat land. I do not know this as a fact. I was just a kid. I remember sometimes you had to climb to get up to the next part of the trail. I remember asking my mom if I could crawl, because my little legs were too tired too walk anymore. I also remember my dad saying something like getting a divorce for my mom getting him into this. I did finish the walk, and they (suprisingly) are still married.
