This has been an entirely different holiday than the past, except, I did do an all day shopping outing on Christmas Eve. Christmas morning was cold, so I decided to go to the church around the corner instead of the one I usually go to, and of course, I still got there a few minutes late. I stood along the sides of the church with many others, and I was surrounded by nice people. The service had a theme of forgiveness, which was meanigful to me, and I left the church with the warm fuzzies.
After church I went home and walked the dogs. During the walk I was pursued by 2 different loose dogs, the last chased us all the way up to my front step. That dog was a big Doberman- type dog with a leash dragging behind followed by a 8 or 9 year old girl . We were both visibly shaken, and after pushing my two in the house she was able to get the leash and take her dog home. I then went to the new relatives apartment. The new relatives are Greek, so we ate a Greek Christmas meal. Some of the food there: pork chops, handmade sausage cooked on the grill, potato salad, the mayo was on the top of the salad instead of mixed in, homemade bread, salad with feta cheese, cabbage salad, shrimp, meatballs, spare ribs, and a plate of lemons to squeeze on top of the meat, various Greek cookies, huge wedding cookies, honey cookies, and baklava, also the famous green bean casserole from a non-greek. I know there was more...but I think that gives a good visual. Later the family from Florida called, and I found out the gifts were a success with the little niece. I was having fun, and was asked not to leave yet, so then we played cards, I'm still unsure of the rules. What did I get for Christmas? That will have to be later, because I haven't gotten them all yet.
In case you didn't know, I think Christmas is everyday anyway.
If you are looking for a good foreign movie I can recommend "The Princess And The Warrior". It is a German movie, that has a better ending than most. I've watched the movie, "The Dangerous LIves Of Altar Boys", and now I'm reading the book by Chris Fuhrman. In the book, a dog causes chaos in mass during the communion procession. I remember this happening during communion when I was a kid too. I wonder if this is a common occurence?

Here are a few words I came across, some of you probably already know what they mean, I just found them cool.
Retardaire-(this adjective describes me) it means behind the time, one who is late in arriving
Psilosopher -a person with a petty or foolish philosophy.
Nihilarian-a person who deals with things of no importance.
Nithing-archaic word for a contemptible or despicable person.
Gongoozler-a person who stares at the activity in a canal --idler, rubbernecker.

Today I went shopping, I needed to buy a few things to send with mom to Florida.
I really love to watch people open presents, and it looks like this year I'm going to miss most of the present openings in my family. My big niece and my parents did there exchanges tonite, and I wasn't there. My mom will be taking my presents to Florida with her, and hopefully the little niece wont forget who I am. It's only been 6 months, but thats a long time for a 3 year old.

Free Movies
Sometimes I get to see free movies. There is a guy that comes by work and sometimes he leaves us free movie passes. Tonite I saw "Cold Mountain". Here are some of the movies that I've seen in the past for free: "X2", "Bend It Like Beckham", "Emperors Club", "Mona Lisa Smile", "Secondhand Lions","House Of Sand And Fog", "Planet Of The Apes","Solaris", "Identity","Wrong Turn", "Joy Ride", "Whale Rider" (this wasn't the movie I supposed to see, the movie I was supposed to see filled up, and luckily I got to see this one instead), I also saw the Star Wars movie, that I can't remember the name of now.
My resheduled dental appt. from the last cancellation, was canceled again. So I just chewed 2 aspirin trying to relieve the pain.

I am a brave woman. Yesterday I met my mom so we could go shopping for a cell phone for her. My mom is driving to Florida alone right before Christmas, so it was really important to get this now. Unfortunately, my mom who can run a office, avoids all technology when she is out of it. After convincing her she needs to get one for safety reasons, she decided after she got to the store, that she could borrow one from her boss. I asked her do you really want to be responsible for his phone? Well?, "no". She asked the store clerk more than one question like this one, "Where do you talk, where do you talk, I don't see a place to talk into."
I'm not really sure why my mom does this, but for some reason she calls me like I am a lost 5-year old in a store. More than one time I heard my name yelled across the store. AAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.
During my outing yesterday I saw the local animal shelter had set up outside of a store, I went for a look, and saw some really cute dogs that were looking to be adopted, including a big fuzzy Collie. There were some people stopping to look at the dogs, but it was cold and windy, and you could tell most people that stopped had an agenda. Still, I'm glad they were out there promoting the shelter.
The day just seemed to get worse as it went on, and I was happy to get in a good tasting no-frills and inexpensive Chinese buffet.
I was planning(mistake) to go to a Christmas boat parade with a neighbor at a nearby lake, but it was raining, and we decided not to go. We later thought of driving around to look at lights in the nearby neighborhoods, but the rain just kept getting worse, and we decided it wouldn't be a good nite. It was a good nite for sitting on the futon with my 3 animals though.

Well, this perfectly planned week to get so many things done, has hardly worked out. I should have known not to plan, it's just not in my nature, and when I do, things just don't seem to happen. Tuesday big dog went to the specialist, but they didn't perform the procedure, and I was still charged almost $400. They still might perform the procedure at another, more inconvenient time, and charge me another large amount of money. Wednesday I did get my eye exam, but I didn't realize that when they put those drops in my eyes, I wouldn't be able to see close-up for about 4 hrs.. Not too much else accomplished the rest of the afternoon, I guess I should be happy I made the drive home okay. One of the girls I work with told me to bring sunglasses, but I forgot and had to wear paper glasses that reminded me of the 3-D glasses you get for movies and comics. Thursday morning when I showed up for my dental appointment the receptionist told me they tried to call me because the dentist had an emergency, and closed the office for the day, and my dental work would have to be rescheduled. When I go to the dentist , since I have a mild heart irregularity, I have to take a large dose of antibiotics prior to the procedure. One hour before I swallowed 4 large pills.
Note to self. I've had the most fun, and gotten the most things done in the random way I usually do things.
During the time I waited with the dog at the specialist, I tried on my new Woodstock scent hand lotion. I guess when I was petting the dog I rubbed a large amount on her, because later when she came up to me, a heavy patchouli smell followed. Now, two days later, I can still smell it on her.
New additions to my favorite things list
Roasted almonds
Almond-Apricot/Apricot -Almond Struedel
Patchouli dogs

Six Feet Under
Just getting in from the Christmas Show and my friend lent me the the next 3 episodes of the T.V. show, "Six Feet Under". So far I find the show interesting, and yet slightly disturbing. I mentioned to my friend that as a child my family would sometimes have bridal showers, baby showers, and birthday parties at a funeral home. My father comes from a big family, he is one of nine children, and they were friends with the people that owned the funeral home. There are many stories to tell there, but right now I want to call my family and find out more reasons that we partied at the funeral home.
After getting off the phone with the parents, I haven't found out too much more than I've heard before. It seems the funeral home, or funeral parlor as some say, had a big room. Yeah. My dad said his wedding shower was there too. My mom can't seem to recall, but remembers going to other showers there.
Did I ever mention my phobias?
What did I get at the Christmas Show?
2 packages of roasted almonds
Swiss almond cheese
Port wine cheese
Crackers
Jacket with small lighthouse and God sentiment
Chick-Fil-A calendar
Oatmeal and honey hand lotion
Green tea hand lotion and powder
Woodstock scent hand lotion
Struedel -almond/apricot
herbal bath stuff

I thought my cat croaked today. He is starting to get up there in years, I think around 13. When I left earlier today he gave back to me the special treat of canned food that I had given him last night. He usually eats dry food, but I thought I would give him a special treat and give him a can of Fancy Feast. He ate the entire can and seemed quite content, until this morning when he was hunched over. When I got home I couldn't find him, I looked eveywhere. I called him over and over. He usually comes when I call. I took out the can opener and opened a can, still nothing. I got out kitty treat cans and shook them, still nothing. I called him for about 5 hrs., I thought for a short time that maybe he got out. I walked the circly area in the neighborhood with the dogs, looked down the sewers, still nothing. I got back in and took out the flashlight and scoured the rooms. I was at the point where I pictured finding his dead body somewhere in the house. Nothing. I called him again kittttttyyyyyyyyyyyyyy. Finally I heard a stirring. He came down the stairs, and he looked angry. He is alive.

Sickness/Illness prevails in this household. I went to the Dr. on Thurs. and stayed home from work and slept almost all day. I have a bacterial infection in the throat. I tried to work on Friday, but even after being on antibiotics for 24 hrs. I actually felt worse than on Thurs. and was sent home at lunchtime. I have a sore throat and swollen tonsils and also swollen glands going down my neck and under the tongue. I was off today, but had to take my dogs to the vet. My little dog was peeing blood again, and the big dog needed a re-check for the recurring problem with infections and bladder stones. The big dog was surpisingly worse than the little dog and they are now both on antibiotics too. My big dog seems to be a puzzling case for the vets, and the vet I saw today told me that the other vet will call me on Monday. Three years of infections and stones is ridiculous. My Big Girl is a candidate for a specialist because she is a case that they can't figure out. They are going to recommend my Big Girl to a urologist. By the time I got home my throat and head felt terrible again. My tonsils are so swollen I can hardly swallow. I need to go to the store to get some aspirin for the pain, so maybe in a couple of hrs. I will feel up to it. Oh, the Dr. also gave me a beta-blocker for my heart. We will see. When I got home from the vet my cat must have gotten angry that we were all out. He does this sometimes if we take a long walk . He gets in the window and makes that sound that only he makes. Candles and stuff near the window were knocked on the floor, and the expensive blinds were in disarray but luckily, for him, not broken.
T.M.I.-- too much information, you bet, but the way I feel right now, too bad.

Here it is after 3 in the morning, and I can't sleep because my heart has been beating strangely for a few hours. It's probably a combination of things, like the sinus pills I took, and the minor heart valve irregularity that I have that is causing this, and it's actually been happening now for a few days. It gets worse when I lie down just like when I had the echocardiogram. Also, for some reason, I remembered back to last year, about a month before my surgery when a certain unkindness happened. Unkindness seems to eat away at me . So right now I am getting a tightening in the chest (which isn't so big), and not feeling so great. Also, yesterday was the birthday of a deceased friend /coworker. If I must some something good about myself, and I must, I almost always remember my friend's birthdays.
I bought twinkies earlier today, I haven't had them in years, and since I'm up I might as well have one.
There is more to say, but whatever I write, cannot describe what I feel, and what I felt. So I will write later.

People I'd like to thank today: The asian man at the dry cleaners who let me use his phone 3 different times to call to see why my roadside assistance hadn't arrived. It was more than 2 hrs. after the posted time on the the door, and he was still working. Doing the math, I figured he just put in a 12 hr.+ day, but he still offered to put a spare tire on my car. The attractive 30 something guy who lives around the corner who helped me attach the air pump to my tire, while he was holding his big black lab, that my little dog hates. I really mean it, I have never seen anything like it. Now I know that he doesn't hold it against me that we create a scene when we are walking our dogs at the same time. Also in the nice try category, my neighbor who attached her bicycle pump to my tire in the attempt to pump it back up. The fellas at Goodyear who let me use their phone to call roadside assistance the first time, and finally the young black man who was sent out by roadside assistance, unaware of the saga that had been unfolding for almost 4 hrs.. He was so nice, I just couldn't take out my upsetment on him.
P.S. I am on vacation for a few days, so it shouldn't be any surprise that I had car trouble, but somehow it was.
So much for the shoes I was going to get at Kohl's, the little girl outfits I was going to look at for my nieces upcoming 3rd birthday. The DVD's and the Jack Skellington doll I was going look at in Media Play.
Tomorrow is another day

This is really Alison who works with me story. I was sitting next to her when a European woman and her little girl who is about nine and came up to the desk. The girl is quite fluent with her english, unlike her mother. When she looked at what her mom was getting and said," what the ffff",and then stopped short. She then said, "I almost forgot, I'm not allowed to use the F word anymore".
We were so grateful.

This afternoon while I was sitting at the front desk, I looked up from the computer and was startled. A man stood in front of me his arms completely outstretched toward my face holding a box turtle. The man said in somewhat broken english that he found it in the street," can we call, can we call someone for it". Instead I motioned the man to follow me, and I led the man to an place behind my work where we have a natural area. I thanked him, and he thanked me. Sometimes things like this make your day.

I watched my first DVD movie on my new combo VCR/DVD player today. The movie I watched was the "The Dish", it's about the satellite dish that NASA used during the Apollo 11 moonwalk. I just love watching movies about the Apollo missions. I highly recommend these movies, "Apollo 13" and "The Right Stuff". I think I'm really going to like this DVD player, I've been having lots of fun trying to figure out all the extra features. The movie "Bottle Rocket" should be arriving for me soon, it has both Luke and Owen Wilson in it. I can't decide which Wilson brother I like the most. A new addition to my favorite things list, my new DVD player, with added bonus of favorite words I haven't used in a long time. Now together in a sentence for the first time. I put a circly thing in my DVD player.

I am reading a book called "Ten Little Indians" it is a collection of stories by Sherman Alexie, a Spokane Indian. The first story in the book is about a Spokane Indian college student who comes across a book of poems in the college library written by another Spokane Indian thirty years earlier, and then sets out to find out who this poet is.
When I was about nine our family took a trip from where I lived in New York to Spokane, Washington. My father's brother and his wife lived there with their two children, a girl K, who is a little younger than me, and a little boy C ,who was about two. It was my first plane ride. I can remember the night before the trip not being able to sleep. I think it was more the excitment, than being nervous of my first plane trip. Here are some of the things I remember about the trip: Going to see the Grand Coulee Dam, swimming in a big lake with a slide in the middle of it, eating spaghetti at a fancy restaurant in Cour d' Alene, Idaho, going to a outdoor rodeo, that had a animal on a spit that people later ate, snow in July that came off the mountain, picking strawberries, going to a haunted house(they wouldn't let me and my cousin K go thru with the lights out, we had to go thru with the lights on), seeing a falling star, visiting my uncle at the air base and seeing his plane/jet, my cousin K crying when she found out that my parents decided to take the train home instead of the plane, and that her playmate would be leaving a few days earlier than she thought, singing say-say oh playmate with my cousin K,and of course the remarkable train ride home.
Sherman Alexie also wrote the screenplay for the movie, Smoke Signals.

I could hardly believe it when a friend called me last week and invited me to go to a baseball game with her and her husband on Saturday. So many times I've asked others if they wanted to go and usually they had very little interest. It looked like it was going to be a rainout too, but we decided to take a chance on it. I worked yesterday and watched the sky go from clouds, to rain, to sun, and back to clouds again. Our team lost, but it was still fun. And then afterwards there was a nice fireworks display. Except for the nausea created by me eating a sickeningly sweet blue shaved ice, it was a nice evening.

I haven't been here for awhile.
About two weeks ago I walked into my house, and the phone was ringing. I walked in the kitchen to answer the phone, and the walked back into the living room while I'm still on the phone. I stepped on something that I thought was a large piece of hair that was shed from my big dog. Then AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.
I am still surprised that I retained my composure on the phone, by just saying quickly, I have to go before I scream. Beneath my shoe was a mole/vole. It looked like a mouse with a tiny, tiny tale. And although I can't prove anything, my cat was lying close by, looking quite puffed up. The critter had two piercings on its back where the blood ran out where I stepped on it. The strange part of this is that my cat has been an indoor cat since Oct . 2002. My only reasoning is that a couple of days before this the grounds workers had been cutting down, and pulling up shrubs, and this critter chose the wrong santuary to escape into.
P.S.
anyone that really knows me, knows one of my phobias, and knowing this, they can appreciate what happened so much more. The phobia is not mice or voles or moles.

Today I went looking for cars with my father. Can I think of doing anything that is worse than that? He arrived about 20 minutes after 9 this morning to pick me up. He pointed out before we left that I had a slash in the side of the tire of my current car. When we arrived at the first dealership there were about 6 guys standing out front waiting for when I got out of the car. Luckily, I got a nice one who wasn't too pushy. After going to the first lot my dad decided to wait in the car. Next I went to the used car lot. The guy that showed me the cars seemed nervous, but nice, and told me this was his first week there. There were no prices on the cars at this lot. When I met the manager I was turned off, and then proceeded across the street to the next lot. I saw a used car that I liked, but it wasn't a certified one so, I would only get the factory warranty and 30 days on the rest. I also saw a 2002 there that was discounted and had a 75,000 mile warranty . By the time I got home in the afternoon my head was spinning. Today is the 13th. I don't have a problem with the 13th, I actually kind of like it. Other people's 13 is usually my everyday anyway.

It's been raining for 3 months. Last Saturday afternoon was a partially nice day, I ran around shopping all morning and into the afternoon. It was also the last day to use the $10.00 Linens N Things coupon that I got in the mail. With the coupon I bought an over the door metal coat rack. When I got home I decided to watch the video, The Ring. It is categorized in the horror genre. I was sitting on my futon, and the the ceiling fan was blowing a nice breeze. It's close to the end of the movie, and I'm getting a bit scared. It's windy outside, but not storming, then there is a bang. I feel like I'm in the movie as everything goes dead, and the fan makes it's last twirl. I sit in a stunned silence. An hour and a half later a drenching storm rolls through. About 5 hrs later my power is restored. I go to put the video in the VCR, but it stops at the same point. Since it is dark I decide to watch it the next day. Sunday I try it again, it stops at the same point. It is broken. I will be buying a replacement soon. I still don't know the ending. Yesterday someone conjectured that this wouldn't have happened with a DVD. Maybe I will buy one.
I must go soon, I don't know when I have been so physically exhausted. I get my workout at work. At least I don't need to pay to go to a gym.

I didn't ever think I'd ever get going today. I finally did, and went to Speed Street, a NASCAR festival on the streets of uptown Charlotte. I got lots of free things(hat, toy cars, cereal , cereal bowl, cup, muffin mix, popcorn, cheese crackers, country music CD's, and bugles snack, that they gave me but I really don't like, so I will give it to someone at work). They ran out of Doughboy dolls, and I was quite disappointed. I also got to look at this new little library that might have an opening soon. I wanted to stop in the Catholic church that was nearby, but they had already closed for the day. I had a slight scare when I thought I missed the bus that I was taking home. It was just running late. Some nice man reassured me things were just hectic today. For dinner I went to Q'doba. It's one of my favorite places to eat, outside on the patio they had a band playing. When I was leaving the restaurant, a little boy who was about nine years old, held the door for me. That was so sweet. It made my day.
Things I still need to do...

Throw out flowers I received when I had my surgery (November)

The Ice Cream Man.
For the last couple of weeks a ice cream truck has been making the rounds in my neighborhood. Today's tune was "Pop Goes The Weasel" a few days ago "Yankee Doodle", usually the tune will go in and out of my thoughts for many hours. When I was growing up on Long Island, we had Jerry the ice cream man. Jerry didn't have a truck, he had a bicycle. He didn't have repetitive music, but bells across his handlebars that he shook to call the kids to the street. All the neighborhood kids loved Jerry. He told funny jokes, and called you meatball, and other goofy names. Jerry showed us a $100.00 dollar bill, then hid it and then he made us guess who was on it .Somewhere at my parents house there is a bad black and white photo of me and the other kids standing in front of the ice cream cycle.
My cousin who lived a few towns away had the ice cream truck. There seemed to be a understanding among the kids there...the ice cream man is where you got illegal fireworks, and ......drugs.
I'm glad we had Jerry

Wal-Mart and Amnesia. It was a late night at the Wal-Mart check-out line. I looked at the name tag. Amnesia?

A new edition to my favorite things list---paper shredder. My paper shredder is cool. It shreds old bills, new bills, junk mail, hate mail, bad pictures, credit cards, and expired coupons.

Last week at work a co-worker pointed out a man sitting and reading a magazine. She said is it my imagination or does one of his shoes have a tassel and one not. Sure enough he was wearing a fancy go to church shoe on one foot with a shiny finish and a tassel and on the other foot a dull somewhat worn loafer. At least they were both slip on shoes.

Late this evening while driving through my neighborhood I saw a large figure in a yard. I braked then I looked closer and saw a large deer looking back at me. It didn't run into the street. A little further down on the next street I saw a bunny. Bambi and Thumper, in the same night.

Jury Duty
I received a notice saying that I will have jury duty at the end of April. Unfortunately it is on a Friday, and that Friday is my day off. I asked if I might trade or get another day off during the week, but that was a no go, so I will be taking a day of vacation so I can get a day off during the week to run my errands. A few weeks ago, I watched the movie 12 Angry Men. Although a few things that happened during the movie didn't exactly jive with a realistic courtroom, for example, telling that the accused served time in a juvenile crime establishment, I still must say it was a great movie. The acting in the movie was superb, and the Characters were timeless. I think I will watch it again, or read the play. If you have never seen this movie, you should.
Finally a nice day!

I am taking a short trip to Rock Hill today with my friend J. It's good to see new scenery, and new people.

I just went to the $1.50 movie and saw Harry Potter And The Chamber Of Secrets, there was a line in the movie that I am trying to look up in the book...I found it...It's our choices Harry, that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities.
Doesn't that sound familiar?

Today a quote from Mother Teresa.
"Profound joy of the heart is like a magnet that indicates the path of life. One has to follow it, even though one enters into a way full of difficulties".

I have just started eating those little microwave mini meals again. A few years ago I used to eat them all the time. One time I was preparing one .i.e. ...I removed the top and put it in the microwave, a strange thing happened. When I removed it from the microwave it was filled only with sauce and one noodle. When I took it out of the microwave there was so much liquid in it, it splattered all over me. I called the company, and they sent me all these coupons so I could get their product for free. I guess most people get weird stuff sometimes. I've also gotten a Dr. Pepper can that was completely closed and completely empty, and a box of straws, in a cardboard container, that was also completely empty. I cannot forget the candy circus peanuts, that I bit into and it had a hair in the middle of it. Yuck

Nice Hair
This morning while the temperature was about 27 degrees, I had to take my two dogs out. I tried to get out and in without being noticed, because my hair didn't look like it had been brushed in about two weeks, but someone across the street was leaving and pulled around in front of me. My hair is long and although I don't have thick hair, I have alot of it. My hair tends to knot and twist especially when I get out of the shower(picture Medusa). I was reminded this morning of a particular incident that happened a couple of years ago. I had just gotten out of the shower, my hair a tangled mess. The dogs were waiting for me crossed-legged at the front door. I didn't have time to untangle . I ran out with the dogs, and a young man down the street rolled down his car window down and yelled, "nice hair".

My cat was trying to scratch open my bottled water this morning, I later noticed their water bowl was empty. Coincidence?

In the last few days I've been to two new restaurants, one of them is called Tin-Tin. I went to Tin-Tin, a chinese buffet, with two girls from work. The regular part of the the buffet was just okay, but in the center area it had more authetic food. Here you could be served soup with rice noodles. These noodles are thinner and longer than what I am used to. The one girl I work with is from Vietnam, and used chopsticks to eat, and urged me to do the same. I told her it was best to practice at home first, I was finally was able to grab the noodles with my fork and spoon together, I was probably very embarassing. When I finally got the noodles, I sucked them up like I was eating spaghetti. It was very good.
